Great hotel for a city escapade to fabulous Amsterdam

Pros: This is a great little hotel, located right on the edge of the Red District but still in a street with a good atmosphere, full of energy day and night. We had the room in the attic with two single beds, simple but comfy. The barthroom was great and the room was tidyied up and cleaned daily by the friendly staff. On our way out they let us leave our bags for the last day. Highly recommended, would repeat at any minute.

Cons: The hotel doesn't have an elevator and the stairs are typical Dutch, narrow and steep, so not the most accessible. The Wi-Fi at the attic was not good -- signal was OK but actual transfer speeds were terrible with all devices.

A fantastic experience. Will stay here again.

Nice hotel in central location

Pros: Excellent location in centre of the city. Nice indoor seating area with tables and chairs to watch the city in the evening. Clean room with good facilities. Nice and friendly staff.

Cons: Nothing.

Amsterdam: A City Made for Wandering

Pros: We had a great stay at Hotel Van Gelder. The location is ideal, just five minutes from Amsterdam Central Station. The bustling street outside is perfect for people watching, but our room (number 23 at the rear) was very quiet. The reception staff were super helpful and friendly. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a hot shower and a really comfy bed. It’s not the Ritz, but more like a Premier Inn — exactly what you need for a short city break. Sights, restaurants, shopping and the canals are all just a short walk away. Honestly, it’s a seriously good location and we’d happily stay again.

Pros: The room was very nice, cosy, and equipped with everything essential for the stay. We really appreciated how spotlessly clean it was and the fact that there were no mandatory time slots for room cleaning. The reception area is definitely a strong point: there are tables where you can sit and eat, as well as board games, which are perfect for sharing fun moments, especially for those travelling in a group like us. The reception is open 24/7 and the staff were friendly, welcoming, and extremely helpful. Overall, a great experience!

Cons: The room was a bit small, although still perfectly adequate for the stay. The only downsides were the water pressure in the shower (which, to be honest, we didn’t report during our stay) and the fact that, despite having a double bed, there were two single duvets instead of one double duvet.

Really great stay! If needed I will be back.

Pros: Exactly what I needed in a short space of time. Really comfortable for one person in the single room. Great new facilities.

Cons: The stairs with a heavy bag and no one offering help to lift it up.

Descent and honest choice if you don’t look for fancy stuff.

Pros: Perfect location. Close to the central train station and walkable distance to everything in the center of Amsterdam.

Pros: Lovely room . Very comfy bed & pillows . Spotless clean . Had a safe & tea & coffee facilities. Although maybe be 6ft tall for mirror in the bathroom & safe 😂😂 . But also not a problem

Cons: Stairs !! But we got changed to a different floor (2nd floor)
